"More of what you wanted, sooner then you dreamed"

That's the Mazda slogan on the front of their vehicle brochures...ironic hey? We're leasing a 2007 Mazda 3, starting on Monday! Hooray! I've been wanting a Mazda since before we got the Neon, so it's pretty exciting. It's got rain sensing windshield wipers, which Trevor will be happy to demonstrate to you, :) a CD player, cruise control, a glove box you could put a small child into, and a trunk that will definitely hold two guitars, an amp and a pod board.

The sad news is we still haven't heard about whether they caught the bad guys, or what our insurance is going to do for us. Our rates are going to double, between the theft and having a brand-new car, and the value of the stuff that was stolen out of the car isn't enough to claim under our home insurance. So we're out quite a bit of money, and we're told that we'll probably only get $500-$1000 replacement cash for the car. :(

At least the Neon is paid for though!!!

Gone!

When my phone rang at about 20 after 4 this morning, I was annoyed. When it rang again, then Trevor's phone rang twice, I was worried. Trevor went to check the message, and it was from a police constable who called to say that our car had been STOLEN, totalled and is now in the impound lot.

I'm just...WHY? It's an old NEON, for goodness' sake - it doesn't even go that fast! (Trevor said it wouldn't even count as GRAND theft auto...lol) We only finished paying for it last week, and we were hoping to drive it for a few more months yet. I just got some work done on it on Sunday, and yesterday after work we got Trevor new shoes to wear to Scott and Sam's wedding...they're gone, along with my down parka, two bags of books I was going to sell, a bag of food for the food bank, and the list goes on!

The car was rolled, and there's blood in it. I can't get the details because our constable has gone off duty, but the guy at the impound lot says it was an injury accident. I'm hoping that means they caught the guys that did it! The unfortunate thing is that whoever took it, even if they got caught, will probably be back shortly, prowling our neighbourhood for more cars to steal.

Now we have to get a rental, sort out insurance stuff, and get a new car...like I really needed more stuff to stress about! Sigh...

Great-grandmother

My great-grand mother, Annie St. Croix, died in her sleep last night. She was over 100 years old, 103, I think it was. I didn't know her at all, but it feels kind of like the end of an era.

It's amazing to me to think of all the things that changed in her lifetime. She was born in the early 1900's, when Newfoundland wasn't even part of Canada yet! They were disputing the ownership of Alaska, the "wireless" was becoming the next big thing, coke was actually made with cocaine, the average salary was $300 USD per year, only the wealthy had phones and cars, "Yankee Doodle" was a hit song, and the Wright brothers were still working on the airplane. I wonder what she thought of how things have changed, and will things change that much in my lifetime?

They've already changed quite a bit - when I was born, people didn't have home computers, phones still had rotary dials, and families usually only had one car. Cold war missiles were still a threat, cell phones didn't exist, the Internet hadn't been invented, cassette tapes were new technology, Canadian families still got a "baby bonus", and there wasn't any GST!

I wonder what changes the next 75 years will bring? Flying cars, a molecular transporter, family vacations on the moon, microchips in your hand with all your info on them, a cure for cancer...?

Winter Blahs...

Man, is it ever nasty out there. I'm watching snow/rain blowing sideways, and it's still so dark out I can barely see it to begin with. ICK! And I've gotten a cold, and I've lost my keys, and the neighbours upstairs are a pain...it's just not shaping up to be a very good day! The perfect kind of day to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over your head...it's supposed to be spring! :(
